Chatlogg for Bridge Base Online sesjon for vugraph116 starter ved: Sat Jul 08 12:05:32 2006

Walddk2: I bør starte med 9 og 10 i åbent rum
Walddk2: John-Eldar spurgte og jeg svarede
Walddk2 (Kringkasting): Back in Norway now
jvage: OK, here we go
Walddk2: Good afternoon and welcome to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. 2 matches of 20 boards today; this is match 1, 1st half
Walddk2: Your commentators are John Vaage, Norway, Bill Jacobs, Australia, and Steve Eginton, England. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
eggy: Esccellent - and a nice balanced hand to start
bjacobs: I prefer 3!H by West to 3!S
eggy: Did North show a 2 suiter, or was it just off shape?
bjacobs: Good question

Walddk2: spillernavne og flag når du får tid
bjacobs: pass
jvage: No explanations, and I don't know who is playing, but my guess is offshape weak
vugraph116: Week w at least 4 card hart and 1 lower minor
jvage: He does have at least 4 hearts!
bjacobs: Dangerous approach by North, when he has 6 hearts
eggy: which explaind the volunteered 4D
eggy: except, presumably he could still have 4 Hearts
Walddk2: Vi må have spillernavne og flag
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day from May to August, and where it's dark as coal in December and January
eggy: 5H seems rather eccentric
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
bjacobs: I think North and South have done well to remain anonymous on this hand
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: I am trying to make Baard put up player names
Walddk2: Not much luck yet
Walddk2: Click on North, South, East and West and insert surnames
bjacobs: I must say it's a very comfortable looking playing area - drinks near-by, and everything
Walddk2: Yes, and some of them are only half empty
jvage: How would 4!s work, it seems at it may make E/W?
eggy: Yes - I seem to remeber that last year, the drinks cabinet was barometer of the tournament's progress
Walddk2: I can see a "Gammel Dansk" ... a Danish bitter
jvage: But the drinks are still in the cabinet......
jvage: Only 1 off now
Walddk2: Nu må du få spillernavne på
bjacobs: Which gets you back to the result in 5!D
Walddk2: Flagene er ikke vigtige, navnene er
jvage: A bit more balanced hands now
jvage: 1NT and 3NT via stayman?
Walddk2: Our host is "The Farmer", John-Eldar Pedersen (JohnP), one of our regular and most faithful commentators. This is the 3rd edition of the Farmen Invitational Teams
Walddk2: So the host is sitting North in this room
bjacobs: East apparently decides that Time is Money, and ignores Stayman
jvage: South is Dag Stokkvik, who played in the Norwegian 1. division this year
Walddk2: sig til ham, at fra næste 2. omgang skal åbent rum starte med spil 9, 10, derefter 1---------------> lukket rum starter med spil 1
jvage: E/W are Espen Larsen and Stein Eliassen
jvage: All strong players from northern Norway
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
jvage: E/W are the ones seen on Web-cam (Eliassen in front)
jvage: You can just see the host to the left
Walddk2: 590 at the other table in 4!SX on board 1
Walddk2: 10 IMps to the Farmers
bjacobs: I see that Passive Smoking legal action hasn't yet come to Northern Norway
Walddk2: The Skilled showed little skill
jvage: Meanwhile this is making comfortably
Walddk2: You are still allowed to smoke in your homes in Norway
jvage: But not in bars etc.
jvage: A very minimum NT, Dag did wisely not to invite
Walddk2: Even 1NT goes down
jvage: Probably
Walddk2: With the spade finesse off he only has 6 tricks
eggy: true but well judged I think - 4333 and the values dispersed
jvage: Maybe he should have taken the spade-finnesse at once, it may not be obvious to cash their tricks
eggy: For the same reason, I think that N migt be considered as less than a 1NT opening
bjacobs: Making
eggy: the heart suit can't get cashed now
Walddk2: Why making?
bjacobs: For some reason, East wanted to hang on to !S98x
Walddk2: Can't Stein throw a spade on !D7?
eggy: Oh dear - now the beer card is active
bjacobs: The 5th diamond Roland - some of us might not have noticed that
jvage: Maybe East kept his spades because he feared declarer could finess the spade Q both ways, he didn't want to tip it off
eggy: West was pseudo squeezed out of the D&
eggy: D7
bjacobs: But if declarer has !SK, then there are 7 tricks, and no one cares
jvage: Agreed, just trying to find a plausible reason:-)
bjacobs: Well it did no harm, and he might have realised this (unlike me)
jvage: I think I prefer 1NT to double from North
bjacobs: Perhaps it wasn't available?
bjacobs: In "standard" methods, this auction shows 19-20
jvage: The way I play he now shows about 19-21
Walddk2: That's what Dag thought too
bjacobs: And the defence will have to be very sharp
eggy: Me too - if you feel that you double with this hand though, you might as well play a 2C response as natural over a 1NT overcall
Walddk2: But who cares to argue with success?
bjacobs: Not me - I tried arguing with East's success last hand, and look where it landed me?
bjacobs: I suppose West might have visualised what was going to happen, but it's so much easier when you can see all 4 hands
jvage: Difficult defense, neither West nor East can be blamed, but as we can see they had 5 top tricks to cash
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: We have John Eldar to the far left
eggy: given the club suit in dummy, I think that West was optimistic hoping that a spade duck would work
Walddk2: Then hopefully you can figure out who the other players are
eggy: after all if East had CA, declarer could duck the 1st spade as well
jvage: Good point
Walddk2: Notice that no-one is smoking or drinking alcohol right now
Walddk2: Rare sight :-)
eggy: Perhaps as they are on BBO - it is a public place :¬)
Walddk2: They may have aqvavit in their mugs though
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day from May to August, and where it's dark as coal in December and January
eggy: shouldn't be too short of ice I imagine
jvage: There are 3 popular uses for double in this position
jvage: 1. Old fashioned negative (=4 spades)
jvage: 2. 4+ spades
jvage: 3. max 3 spades (may well be the one used)
bjacobs: There might be 4: any number of spades (as part of "negative free bids")
jvage: lol!
bjacobs: They don't play 4. here, as with negative free bids, West could have bid directly in diamonds
eggy: 3NT wouldn;t have been a bad shot I think by East
jvage: Not so easy to reaxh with only 20hp
eggy: and, from it's chance of success, is the same contract as 3D
jvage: 3NT may go several down
bjacobs: Declarer has a winning plan here
eggy: Well could do, but as it happens, never more than 1 I think
bjacobs: He is going to endplay South
eggy: or not :¬((
bjacobs: He's let me down
jvage: And souths spades was to good to make an unblock possible
eggy: as Bill said, played it superbly until that point
bjacobs: He tricked me, because I thought by ruffing out the clubs, the endplay was on his mind
jvage: North plans to show a 22-24NT
Walddk2: At least 10 tricks in 4!S
Walddk2: You don't go wrong with that spade holding
jvage: And south will transfer him to 4!s
eggy: bet I could
Walddk2: Sure Steve, if you want to play against the odds
eggy: I wouldn't want to, it's whether I know them :¬)
bjacobs: In that case Steve, maybe you would want to play in 4!H and hope to develop the diamonds for a spade discard
eggy: Good thinking
Walddk2: Not necessarily good enough. Then you have the club problem
bjacobs: Well, I will ruff a club in dummy, but 4!H does carry some risks, and is rather more complicated than 4!S
Walddk2: 3rd and 5th leads in Norway are standard
eggy: of course the difference in lines is quite marginal (even the 3rd best line that fails here) ..
Walddk2: reverse (upside-down) attitude, standard count
eggy: but as JTR wrote "even the glint in an opponents eye is worth 2%"
bjacobs: yikes
Walddk2: Now, we'd better tell why it's wrong to play the spade suit like this
jvage: As a kib has told me, he can now make 12 double-dummy (discarding on hearts and run the !cK)
eggy: anyone see any glints on the webcam?
Walddk2: You have to consider the 4-0 breaks
bjacobs: The reason it is technically wrong is that cashing !SA picks up Qxxx in East
Walddk2: and only if East has all 4 can you pick them up
Walddk2: Thgerefore, you should start by cashing the ace
bjacobs: I'd go up ace here - if they are 3-1, you can hope that the 3 card spades has 3 hearts
bjacobs: so dummy's club can be discarded
jvage: agreed
jvage: It's also the play with best odds in isolation (but is very close)
Walddk2: You are feeling bad when this happens on vugraph
bjacobs: John Eldar must have incorrectly caught a glint in someone's eye
Walddk2: Most of us have tried it
bjacobs: Just a matter of diagnosing the spade hole here ... or bashing and giving North a guess on lead
bjacobs: Looks like they've started the clinical diagnosis, so they need to stay out of slam
jvage: 3!d was mini-splinter, seemingly unlimited
Walddk2: Many new specs arriving from our Poland broadcast, so I'd better tell what this is
Walddk2: We are in Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. 2 matches of 20 boards today; this is match 1, 1st half
Walddk2: 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day from May to August, and where it's dark as coal in December and January
Walddk2: Our host is "The Farmer", John-Eldar Pedersen (JohnP), one of our regular and most faithful commentators. This is the 3rd edition of the Farmen Invitational Teams
jvage: Maybe North should have led a !s, since the lack of control was what kept them out of slam (but North can't know this for sure)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: It's John-Eldar to the far left on your screen
jvage: Playing so called Walsh it is normal to ignore a good diamond suit to respond in a major
Walddk2: And then you missed the best partscore: 2!D
jvage: Yes, maybe with this much distribution west should have transferred to 2!d via 2!c (if they play XY/double checkback)
Walddk2: I would have messed this up
Walddk2: Unblocking !CJ. That's what the king asks me to do in my methods
jvage: Not standard in Norway, leading the Q would ask for the unblock of the J
Walddk2: so reverse Garozzo. Why not, everything is reversed these days
Walddk2: Garozzo vs. NT: A and Q ask for attitude, K for unblock or count
bjacobs: The reverse of this: A and Q for unblock or count, K and J for attitude works similarly
bjacobs: Whichever way you go, it is a good approach
Walddk2: sure, you just need an agreement. Nothing new
jvage: Now declarer would definitely have preferred to play in 2!d
bjacobs: My point is that the idea of coding the honour leads like this is very sound
eggy: The 4S where declarer found an usual line to go down was flat - but that was because they were in 5S in the closed
eggy: unusual
eggy: It was a strange line I thought, why not hope for SK right and play for the hearts to come in?
Walddk2: An uneventful 3NT now
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: Remember to take a look at the bar in the background tomorrow morning
Walddk2: You won't see as many bottles then
jvage: A puppet sequence to 3NT
jvage: 3!c ask for 5 card major
jvage: 3!s showed 4 !h
Walddk2: Give him 11 tricks Baard
Walddk2: 1NT made in the other room on board 8
jvage: Playing on for the pseudo-squeeze
jvage: That could have been a real squeeze on another layout
Walddk2: This is the last board of the 1st half. Thanks to Baard, our splendid operator in the living room. Well done
Walddk2: Also thanks to my excellent fellow commentators: Steve Eginton, John Vaage and Bill Jacobs
Walddk2: Finally thanks to John-Eldar Pedersen, "The Farmer", the host and the person who has been instrumental in organising this broadcast
jvage: See you again for the next session, then even with a Scandinavian closed room!
Walddk2: Play will resume in about 25 minutes with the 2nd half of this match. English (open room), "Danorgian" in the closed. Hope to see all of you back then
bjacobs: Where will this end up?
bjacobs: Nice bid!
bjacobs: A real vu-graph job, that 3!H
bjacobs: I suppose once North didn't bid 1!S, 4!S was no longer achievable
eggy: well I suppose that 3Nt was practical, if inelegant
Walddk2: The rest is silence. 12 tricks
jvage: Without a club-lead this is a great game (with the friendly !d split it would still make)
Walddk2: Thanks to all our spectators for joining us this morning; hope you enjoyed the show
bjacobs: Probably the third best contract behind 4!S and 5!D, but this is a hard hand to bid
Walddk2: Back in 23 minutes and 21 seconds. See you then
Walddk2: Bye for now
jvage: Bye all
eggy: Bye all
Walddk2: Er du der?
->Walddk2: Ja
->Walddk2: Går det bra?
->Walddk2: Vi luker ikke ned
Walddk2: sure
Walddk2: We will keep the tables open until the 2nd half begins in about 15 minutes
Walddk2: English commentary in this room, mixed Scandinavian in the closed
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
->Walddk2: Vi starter OR presist - om 7 min
Walddk2: fint
Walddk2: Restarting in 7 minutes I am told
->Walddk2: Gjestende lag bytter plass
Walddk2: Good afternoon and welcome back to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. 2 matches of 20 boards today; this is match 1, 2nd half
Walddk2: Your commentators are Bill Jacobs, Australia, Shirley Ybarra, USA, Eamon Galligan, Ireland, and Michael Barel, Israel. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
sybarra: Hello all from Wash. DC
Walddk2: Our operator in the living room is Baard
eamongall: I thought sybarra was from Hoskova
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day from May to August, and where it's dark as coal in December and January
Walddk4 (Kringkasting): Our live vugraph broadcast from Norway restarting in 2 minutes. Open room for English, closed room for mixed Scandinavian commentary
Walddk2: Welcome back to Bill Jacobs
Walddk2: and welcome to Michael Barel from Israel
bjacobs: Hi
mich-b: Hi all
sybarra: hi guys
mich-b: Will someone open this hand?
bjacobs: North
mich-b: Perhaps North?
sybarra: agree
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
bjacobs: with a bang
Walddk2: You have John Eldar to the far left
Walddk2: The rest is up to you to figure out
mich-b: A simple 1!S would appeal to many
bjacobs: 1!S with a Drury control would get the same result as this
mich-b: East went very quietly
Walddk2: Good afternoon to Gerben Dirksen from the Netherlands
mich-b: I think I would bid , perhaps a delayed 2NT after 2!S
mich-b: showing a 2-suited takeout
sybarra: middag gerben
Gerben42: good afternoon all from sunny partially cloudy Stuttgart
bjacobs: East would like to have bid, but 2!S forces you to the 3 level (opposite a passed partner), and nothing else appealed
mich-b: Partly cloudy since Germany's loss in the semi-final?
Gerben42: no the party just goes on here
mich-b: is today's 3rd place match considered important?
Gerben42: yes
eamongall: yes todays match is important as Portugal are 4-1 in bookies in a 2 horse race
mich-b: Perhaps East could bid a simple 2!H over 2!D?
sybarra: hello eamon :)
Gerben42: matches for a home crowd are always important
Gerben42: anyone for a bid in N?
Gerben42: red vs white quite pushing it
mich-b: Would hate myself ... but still pass
bjacobs: Would hate myself, but still bid 1!S
mich-b: the wrong vulnerability
bjacobs: I'm sure you are right
Gerben42: I would try to rotate the board 90 degrees, and if that does not work, pass
mich-b: Most partners seem to have more sympathy for conservative actions, rather than wild shots
bjacobs: But that shouldn't be what determines your choice, should it?
eamongall: seems like we can garner at least 9 tricks
mich-b: conservative "NON-actions" , perhaps
sybarra: if going for the "wild side" why not a 2 suited bid?
eamongall: rent them a good movie
Gerben42: prefer a 2-suiter over 1!S
Gerben42: but pass over either
sybarra: (not my cup of tea here)
mich-b: Thats an important issue really , perhaps we should discuss it seriously some time , but keeping partner happy is important
eamongall: oops ..movie was meant private
Gerben42: but a good idea Eamon
Gerben42: since !c7 stops this is safe
mich-b: I am slightly surprised that South didnt lead !Ds
mich-b: after all this is his best suit , and he has a nice sequence
Gerben42: 1!D has a high probability to be 5 cards, that's probably why
Gerben42: since with 4 cards not that important to bid !D over !C
eamongall: board 11 was a partscore double swing
bjacobs: Yes, North passed the nice 10 count, and lost the contract
bjacobs: I think the imps are deserved, not a matter of luck
Gerben42: right, bridge is a bidder's game
bjacobs: But perhaps not a bid on Board 12's North hand :)
bjacobs: I suppose bridge is not a Lunatic's game
Gerben42: even opening 1!S would work, opps would have to buy it for 3!H-1
sybarra: or maybe you mean that reversed...it is a lunatics game :)
Gerben42: that too
bjacobs: My suggestion of 1!S was fairly wild ... to the point of lunacy
sybarra: should have said "a game for lunatics"
mich-b: North is doing well here , after his trick1 play..
mich-b: he did well in both !Ds , and !Hs
Gerben42: well I guess we travel all over the world to throw around small cardboard tiles - must be crazy
sybarra: :)
bjacobs: plastic tiles ... maybe that's not so crazy
Gerben42: a spec suggests it's better than chess, where something similar is done more slowly
eamongall: looks like a cool place to live in top of Norway
bjacobs: Yes, the North Norway Bridge Convention Centre has a homely feel about it
sybarra: now what? does he duck this?
Gerben42: in fact it's John-Eldar's home where they are playing I think
sybarra: web cam is in the living room
bjacobs: You mean, the open room
sybarra: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
Gerben42: the open living room
bjacobs: :)
sybarra: open room and the living room
Walddk2: the closed room is the bathroom and it's locked
Walddk2: So a real closed room for a change
eamongall: ah I see a chap with his hat on backwards or else his head is on backwards
Gerben42: as a commentator said before, everything is backwards nowadays. Drury, Ace Asking, etc.
bjacobs: hat wearing ...
sybarra: "our" menu tonight is: Wild Salmon, coalfish, prawns, mussels "grillet et bouillet".
Gerben42: yumm
mich-b: a nice slam here for EW
Walddk2: Riddle to the commentators: why is Trond's (West) nickname Wirkola?
bjacobs: let's see if it's on the menu
sybarra: he leaps ....?
Gerben42: we had that one from last year
eamongall: and this year
Walddk2: ok Gerben, tell us
eamongall: something about a jumper bidder
Gerben42: Wirkola was a famous norwegian ski jumper
Gerben42: and Trond likes to jump high also :)
Gerben42: in the bidding
bjacobs: That doubtful double from South has reaped a huge dividend
mich-b: Not high enough this time
mich-b: Wirkola will not win this jumping contest
Gerben42: scared opps :)
eamongall: a kibtzer says farmers get massive subsidies in North Norway :)
Gerben42: must be, probably not the best climate conditions to grow things
mich-b: what do they grow there?
Gerben42: so you cannot grow your crops as efficiently as the south-Norwegians
eamongall: also same kibitzer mentioned something about 2 votes at election time
eamongall: meanwhile what happened our slam
Gerben42: appears no crops, more sheep and things
mich-b: A kibitzer suggests they may be growing christmas trees ...
sybarra: thought it was reindeer for Santa
Gerben42: lumber is a main export product of the Nordland province, and fish
mich-b: I think North hand is too strong for 1NT
Gerben42: I agree
Gerben42: worth 18
sybarra: I dont like the shape for 1 nt, and with all acey stuff
mich-b: some shape , great controls , source of tricks on the side
eamongall: a !D lead will leave declarer looking for endplays
Gerben42: then you play 4!H
eamongall: oops was analyzing 4!Hs
Gerben42: 4!H not the worst of contracts
eamongall: they have reached 6!Hs on slam hand we had a little while ago in other room
bjacobs: 4!H just suffers from problems getting to South to take finesses ... all of them losing as it turns out
Gerben42: yes so lucky not to be there, if either round suit finesse comes in...
sybarra: guess we should say "well judged" here
eamongall: so hence farmers lead moved on
sybarra: should easily land in 4 !H here
mich-b: this time they will get to 4!H
bjacobs: on the wings of Sam Stayman
Gerben42: couldn't one make 4!H on prev. board by winning !S and directly playing !C to Q?
bjacobs: Yes, with a bit of followup peeking
Gerben42: might be better than taking finesses since you get to discard the !D
bjacobs: Looks like you have to then cash !HA, and East can only ruff the third club with his !HK
Gerben42: also win if no one can ruff 3rd !C
bjacobs: But that's my point
Gerben42: but to cash !HA might need some peeking
bjacobs: Exactly
mich-b: but you need to decide what to do - cash the 3rd !C or play trumps
bjacobs: It's a conundrum, if clubs are 4-2, but the heart king is onside, you don't want to cash !HA
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
eamongall: E/W have found 5!Ds doubled on 3!H board so thats booked for 500 I think
bjacobs: Is there a director at John Eldar's house?
bjacobs: or caddies?
Walddk2: yes
Walddk2: the polarbears
eamongall: playing TD it says .. John himself
sybarra: call "Dictator"
Gerben42: yes and no - those not playing are caddy, operator, etc.
Walddk2: They are walking around in the streets anyway
bjacobs: You're kidding
bjacobs: I hope the front door to the house is closed
bjacobs: Or the web cam could get real interesting
eamongall: and is there some sitting out players gone fishing for dinner ?
sybarra: its summer, the polar bears are else where
Walddk2: 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. That's good for at least one thing: they have plenty of ice for their drinks
Gerben42: the schedule is 12 players of which 8 play and the others operator, caddy, drink, hunt, ...
mich-b: feed the bears...
Gerben42: Temperatures in the summer can be in the upper twenties. So no ice perhaps
eamongall: the 5!Ds went for 300 .. it was non-vul
Walddk2: Temperatures in the winter can be in the lower twenties (minus). So plenty of ice
vugraph116: no ice for the drinks.. strait up ;)
Gerben42: smiling on the webcam now: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm - note also the glasses on the table
Gerben42: no room for ice in the small one
bjacobs: This is what bridge in heaven is like
bjacobs: Of course, bridge in hell is played with a 51-card deck
mich-b: is 4!S makeable here?
Gerben42: I thought with a 65-card deck
Gerben42: the devil cashing 13 green tricks when you bid NT
Gerben42: offshape 2!H and offshape X
Gerben42: works well though
eamongall: 2!H might be 4H and a minor
sybarra: this is pass or correct
sybarra: minor
eamongall: !S leads might cause trouble
sybarra: is it auto lead?
mich-b: not many losers ... but not many tricks
Gerben42: maybe !C lead
bjacobs: I don't think the trump lead is at all auto
eamongall: but not many entries to defender with !Ss
sybarra: me either....why I was asking
Gerben42: at the cam: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm now real action photo - taking the bid out
mich-b: Perhaps the "classic" approach for West would be to pass , and reopen with a Dbl if opps get to !Ds
Gerben42: I think so...
mich-b: not a "classic" lead , but worked ok
Gerben42: my partner usually bids !D when I x on this
sybarra: at a high level :(
mich-b: can see 9 tricks
bjacobs: spade 7?
mich-b: is there a Sqz for the 10th?
eamongall: the computer says yes but is taking a while to grind it out
bjacobs: down 2
eamongall: well that was hardly the play
mich-b: cashing AK!H earlier would work, I think
mich-b: North would have been endplayed in the end , it seems
Gerben42: 5!D here
mich-b: Can we predict 5!DX EW ?
Gerben42: maybe 4!S unXd
sybarra: a battle in the !H suit for a round or 2
bjacobs: Suppose West plays 5!D on a heart lead
sybarra: anyone for a 2 suited bid with West?
Gerben42: classical 2-suiter
mich-b: Yes, 2!H ok for me
bjacobs: Does he have to build an entry to dummy's !D875 in order to make it?
Gerben42: 6 - 5 :)
mich-b: I think if he didnt want to start with 2!H , he should have started with 2!D
sybarra: I play "good/bad" 2 suiters....whatever my system is I am in
mich-b: planning to bid 4!S later
Gerben42: this one is surely "good"
sybarra: absolutely
sybarra: all I am saying....I have wide range on the 2 suiter call
mich-b: Don't like the 5!H
eamongall: vulnerable they treading dangerously
Gerben42: me neither - 3!H said it all
Gerben42: live auction on the webcam: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
sybarra: ?
Gerben42: the 5!H is clearly visible
sybarra: surprised at this auction
eamongall: lucky not to get smacked there by a team that knows its losing
Gerben42: if you look now: too late - back in the in bidding box :)
Gerben42: smack it for down 1?
sybarra: not sure it will be -1
eamongall: well its hardly making and might be 2 off
sybarra: yes it will sorry
Gerben42: -1 just 2 more !S
mich-b: North really didnt seem to have any special reason to bid 5!H
mich-b: it could have been worse for him
sybarra: maybe in fact could have made...
sybarra: several suggestions from specs
sybarra: club up at trick 2
Gerben42: but 1!S then 5!D was typical Wirkola :)
Gerben42: jump!
mich-b: Do they suggest any defenses against polar bears?
Gerben42: yes - give them your lunch
mich-b: Can you give them the Menu?
sybarra: or run faster than the guy behind you?
Walddk2: armament
Gerben42: be sure to also check this essential part of the rules: http://www.nordpol.no/diamond7.htm
mich-b: is a raise of 3NT to 4NT considered a jump?
Gerben42: on this kind of hand - perhaps :)
bjacobs: Gotta stay off that !HK
mich-b: Well , the !CQ drops ...
mich-b: the !HK is singleton ...
bjacobs: But declarer might play towards !HQ if given the chance
mich-b: the !SK is onside ...
sybarra: and the !S hook is on
Gerben42: dont argue with success if he makes it
mich-b: well judged:)
Walddk2: 100.0 for style
eamongall: apparently 5!Hs was makable when I was saying double :)
Gerben42: aargh
Gerben42: claim :)
mich-b: this lead will not frighted declarer ...
mich-b: frighten
Gerben42: Dag of course means "bye" in Dutch - applies now
mich-b: not as much as a polar bear would ... at least
mich-b: And I thought Dag is Swedish for "Day" ,right?
Gerben42: guessed partner had !H (correct)
Gerben42: and guessed partner had A or Q (incorrect)
Gerben42: 3rd seat favourable - shows nothing really
bjacobs: What could he do? All the other suits were so speculative. I would have done the same thing.
mich-b: In Hebrew "Dag" means "Fish" ... but who cares , really?
Gerben42: :)
bjacobs: In Australian, "Dag" means "Idiot"
Gerben42: if North passes EW wont overbid to 6NT
eamongall: the lady still got to sing a little yet
eamongall: EW getting down in 3N on other hand ..the 5!Hs one
vugraph116: wirkola says no 1 jumps like me ;)
Gerben42: might not cost that much opposite 1370 but COULD have been great board
Gerben42: 6!C making vs 6NT down = 16 IMPs
bjacobs: Last board of the set coming up.
sybarra: this is last before lunch
mich-b: Seriously speaking now , if East was going to accept the invitation , he could (should) have bid 5!C or 6!C on the way, to suggest playing there
bjacobs: Our sincere appreciation to Baard Riisnes for the excellent operations. We got a glimpse of his black hair, and I suspect he's really good looking.
mich-b: The losers being fed to the bears
bjacobs: And many thanks to Shirley Ybarra, Michael Barel, Gerben Dirksen and Eamon Galligan for the fine commentary.
mich-b: This board is really difficult to bid
eamongall: other table started their slam bidding at the 2N level .. after multi openings
sybarra: maybe be difficult to stay out of slam
bjacobs: We restart with match 2 at 18.00 Paris, 12 pm New York, 5 pm London.
mich-b: EW have a 9 card !S fit , but 2 trump losers there
Gerben42: 53% chance of 1 loser though, so above par
sybarra: it is a "sad" hand really
eamongall: well as somebody said .. Dag = Goodbye
eamongall: slam hand is in 3Nt at other table so that would have been lead down to 10
mich-b: would 6!H have a chance?
mich-b: probably not on a !S lead ...
bjacobs: I think the next set starts in 3 hours - have I got the calculations right?
sybarra: yes you are correct Bill
bjacobs: That's a solid afternoon tea for the players
Walddk2: Not quite, 3 hours, 4 minutes and 47 seconds
sybarra: oh well we were close bill
sybarra: :)
Gerben42: now Dag doubles, says "goodbye to your contract" :)
bjacobs: Roland has very high standards
mich-b: thanks all for being here , and watching
sybarra: cu for next set :))
Gerben42: thanks all
bjacobs: bye
Gerben42: tusen tak!

Walddk2 (Kringkasting): Our live vugraph broadcast from Norway restarting now
Walddk2: Good evening and welcome back to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. 2 matches of 20 boards today; this is match 2, 1st half
Walddk2: Your commentators Migry Zur Campanile, Israel, David Greenwood, Ireland, and Jim Hay, Scotland. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
Walddk2: Hello Migry, Jim and David
ahh: hi Roland
migry: Hi all from sunny Tel Aviv:)
jtr: Good afternoon people
Walddk2: Our operator is Stein Eliassen. Welcome to you too
ahh: hi Migry and David
jtr: Jim
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: Our host is "The Farmer", John-Eldar Pedersen (JohnP), one of our regular and most faithful commentators. This is the 3rd edition of the Farmen Invitational Teams
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day from May to August, and where it's dark as coal in December and January
migry: I wouldn't mind the sunny bit
Walddk4 (Kringkasting): Closed room from Norway also up now
jtr: Like winter here today
ahh: i was there in may 1 year no darkness takes some getting used to
jtr: Is my scandanavian good enough to go there do you think Roland?
Walddk2: Indeed David
Walddk2: Krya på dig!
jtr: :-)
ahh: poor Tommy goes all that way to pick up 2 points
jtr: Lätt som en plätt
Walddk2: Just det
migry: wd anyone bid 3!d with south?
ahh: yes
jtr: I like 2NT with that shape
Walddk2: Me2
jtr: and partner may be 1-4-4-4
ahh: 2nt is no bed of roses
ahh: but gets lucky
Walddk2: On this layout it is
migry: if you belong in 3NT u can always get there
jtr: the hand screams NT to me
ahh: no bed but comes up smelling of roses
Walddk2: Can't you if you bid 2NT?
jtr: notwithstanding 3!d may be a 4-3 fit
migry: nobody screams to me david:) or nothing for that matter:)
jtr: lol I bet!
migry: and it's true that it may be a 4-3 fit but u play on the assumption that pd has 5 cards
migry: and again 3!d doesn't have to be the final contract:)
jtr: We can agree on one thing though Migry....
Walddk2: that you disagree
jtr: Exactly!
ahh: judging by the webcam the players have been drinking they are all out of focus or does that mean i've been drinking
jtr: I will start charging you for stealing my punchlines:-)
Walddk2: Yes
Walddk2: The pictures are a little blurred
Walddk2: But so are the players, so not a big deal
Walddk2: Drinking and smoking allowed
jtr: lol
migry: can i get an invite for next year:)
Walddk2: Encouraged even
jtr: smoking?
Walddk2: It's alsmost mandatory
migry: the smoking part is so attractive
jtr: it depends....
Walddk2: This is quite funny. You know what "smoking" means in Danish?
migry: no:)
ahh: the webcam is at www.nordpol/cam.htm
Walddk2: dinner jacket
jtr: same in French
Walddk2: So when it says "No smoking", I wear my jeans
jtr: lol
migry: lol
ahh: thank god you wear something
ahh: more points for Tommy this time
migry: Tommy got some compensation for the previous hand:)
Walddk2: Tommy is Tommy Sandsmark, a jolly good fellow. Do you all know him?
migry: is that some puppet stayman?
jtr: Yes, judged not to play 5-3!hs
migry: looks reasonable to me although i wd have transfered
jtr: I know you wont like that Migry:-)
ahh: 11 tricks unless def get active on lead
Walddk2: And they need to be fast if they want to finish before the World Cup Final
migry: is the next match between hunters and gatherers?
Walddk2: 3rd place playoff rather
Walddk2: The next match is the final tomorrow
ahh: 3rd place play off is reserves doing mop up duty
Walddk2: This is the 1st half of the last match in the qualifying
jtr: The play-off may well be the best match so far Likely better than the final
migry: without the drama
Walddk2: They had a lunch break for 3 hours. I bet it was wet
jtr: true
ahh: apart from italy germany knock out games generally been disappointing
Walddk2: That's why the pictures are blurred
jtr: :-)
jtr: Slam Roland?
Walddk2: Stein, hearts are the red ones !H
ahh: all roads lead to 3nt
Walddk2: cold "Roland" slam 6!c Richie says
Walddk2: He is right
jtr: Not NT?
Walddk2: I would be disappointed if they don't bid it
Walddk2: Gunnar is Gunnar Harr sjef1 on BBO
Walddk2: Undo please Stein
jtr: should make 12 anyway
Walddk2: They surely didn't stop in game
ahh: told you 3nt was spot
migry: nice !c position
Walddk2: Wimps
ahh: rename team old warriors then
Walddk2: The pictures are better now!
Walddk2: But the players haven't changed
jtr: hmmm
migry: the correct way is to play small to the 9
jtr: you have to be in the right hand first to do that
migry: and if that loses to an honor (without the 10 appearing) play the J!c
Walddk2: It's Gunnar to the far left. Maybe you can figure out how the rest are seated then
migry: no entry problems
Walddk2: That would be a bottom at the World Pairs Championships
Walddk2: 3NT, 4!H, take your pick
Walddk2: Looks like strong club
Walddk2: so 1!H was already game forcing
migry: 4!h looks better than 3NT
jtr: I dont see it Migry
ahh: 9 sure tricks in 3nt
migry: on a !c lead
jtr: Looks like we are going to have an argumentative session:-)
migry: true
migry: counting to 9 is not so easy:)
jtr: I find it easier than counting to 10 But maybe am perverse?:-)
reisig: what an opening!
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day at the moment (when it's not raining)
reisig: David ...I'd never say that:)
jtr: Oh yes?:-)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
Walddk2: polar bears walking in the streets
jtr: Richie, it is in your interests to be nice to me for the next few weeks:-)
Walddk2: Just kidding, running
reisig: why is that>
jtr: I may have the pleasure of commentating on your play
wstuart: .
Walddk2: Me too :-)
reisig: oh my!
Walddk2: We booked a seat in row 1 already
ahh: that should be fun
jtr: I just avoided the word 'dubious' in that phrase lol
ahh: dubious before commentating or play ?
Walddk2: before pleasure
ahh: ok :)
migry: :)
jtr: You see, i am perverse
reisig: we all KNEW that!
jtr: hang on, i am starting to make notes of dubious remarks by RR
Walddk2: "Manual for BBO commentators" about to be released. 218 pages
jtr: the aBridged version?
Walddk2: yes
Walddk2: It's a Beta version, we'd like you to try it first
jtr: previous one was 785 pages
ahh: so far 3 flat boards
jtr: Mind you 453 of those were about being deferential to Roland
Walddk2: Look at the bar cupboard!
Walddk2: Still half empty bottles in it
ahh: other pages tell you words to avoid using
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
reisig: Like the "F" word ....Flannery?
ahh: yes
jtr: They are no dount planted there to make us thing of the player's sobriety?
Walddk2: &%€€"!
ahh: and the G word
Walddk2: There is an I-word too one must avoid
reisig: I guess a raise promised 4 cards
jtr: Bit more interest in this hand thank God
ahh: !D lead looks best for defence
jtr: Great lead
Walddk2: excellent, it's killing
migry: not on this lead - just 1 down
jtr: !c blockage is annoying for declarer
jtr: !h9 played i think
Walddk2: Don't be too sure, they just had lunch
jtr: lol
jtr: again 3NT was best
migry: not on the 10!s lead from south
reisig: See ya all
Walddk2: Bye Richie
ahh: bye R
migry: if declarer ducks twice the defence can switch to !D
ahh: could be fun here
Walddk2: Not if they arrive in slam
jtr: So, it needs the !h finesse
jtr: mini splinter
migry: is 3!h excessive?
Walddk2: As usual, 3NT is the spot
jtr: 5!h maybe?!!!!
Walddk2: He didn't fancy his defence?
Walddk2: He does now
jtr: ah Alls well that ends well
migry: it depends if u r a farmer or a warrior
jtr: It wasnt East's duty to remove the X
jtr: His partner could have passed if 5!s might be an option
Walddk2: You can't pass when you have travelled 3,000 km from Oslo
jtr: ah ok
jtr: It's really that far?
Walddk2: The distances in Norway are enormous
jtr: Never realised it was that long a country
Walddk2: Only 5 million inhabitants, but 324,220 km² !
ahh: 4!D = both majors game only
ahh: 4 !C = both majors slam interest
Walddk2: spade is the killer against 3NT
ahh: on 5 3nt did indeed make
jtr: Think top !h then !s will work too
Walddk2: Yes, but must knock out the entry to diamonds
migry: declarer ducks the first 2 spades and pitches the A!d on the A!s
jtr: then finesses !c?
ahh: this will not succede
migry: because of the !c
migry: but if clubs split it wd be quite elegant
jtr: true
migry: not that it matters now anyway
jtr: There! I agreed with you!
migry: you always do david:) you know what's good for u:)
jtr: lolol
ahh: 2 off in this
ahh: singleton ace was a liability
jtr: heading slamwards this time i am sure
migry: not a bad slam here - pity the !h finesse doesn't work
Walddk2: I have been in worse slams, much worse
ahh: 50% ish slam
jtr: I can see it maybe making though
jtr: If West thinks it is on the !c guess
Walddk2: And get past !CA
jtr: Shouldnt really
migry: u may try to play a club to dummy and if west plays small u r home as the !c goes on the !d
migry: and the hand with 4!d has 3 trumps
jtr: You can be fairly sure the !hK will be a trick
ahh: i solve that problen by leading !C ace
Walddk2: Good plan
ahh: just follow Robson 's advice lead aces v slams
Walddk2: The Warriors are relentless now
jtr: wonder who has asked and who has shown here
ahh: well will be in slam both players have strong !C opener
jtr: ah science prevailed!
Walddk2: The Farmers harvesting now
Walddk2: maybe not wheat, but IMPs
jtr: N askes; S shows: 2h=4 controls, 3d= 2 top honors to 5 S, 4d= 1st round control in H
migry: :)
jtr: thanks to a spec for the info
Walddk2: Jim, how did Stian understand your Scottish accent? Perhaps because it's English?
ahh: :)
jtr: Sundklakk quite a common name in England i believe
ahh: world will bid this slam
Walddk2: This is the last board of the 1st half. Thanks to Stein Eliassen, our splendid operator in the living room. Well done!
Walddk2: This is how I picture bridge in heaven
Walddk2: Living room, drinks, etc.
ahh: very true
Walddk2: Also thanks to my excellent fellow commentators: Migry Zur Campanile, Jim Hay, David Greenwood and Richie Reisig
migry: thx all:)
Walddk2: Finally thanks to John-Eldar Pedersen, "The Farmer", the host and the person who has been instrumental in organising this broadcast
ahh: only thing missing is the Lavazza girls serving the drinks maybe they are in the closed room
Walddk2: The closed room is the bathroom, and it's locked. So a real closed room for once
jtr: This might sneak through
ahh: think not
migry: no way:)
jtr: Ah a closet room?
Walddk2: That's how Guido Ferraro pronounced "closed". Just ask Migry
jtr: lol
Walddk2: The closet room
migry: true:)
jtr: I dont think they can beat it actually
jtr: after the !s lead
Walddk2: Play will resume in about 38 minutes, 49.7 seconds with the 2nd half of this match. Hope to see you all back then
jtr: Jim failed to point out the lead for the Farmers here
ahh: :)
Walddk2: Thanks to all our spectators, hope you enjoyed the show
ahh: thx all been great fun
Walddk2: See you later
Walddk2: Bye for now
migry: see u later:)
jtr: Thanks for watching Hope you enjoyed
Walddk2: Resuming in 15 minutes with the 2nd half of 10 boards
->Walddk2: Vi starter om 11 min
Walddk2: ok
Walddk2: Sig de skal spille hurtigt. Fodbold kl. 21!!
->Walddk2: vi er klar her . skal vi starte?
Walddk2: Nei
Walddk2: Kommentatorerne kommer først kl. 19.45
->Walddk2: ok
Walddk2: OK, start bare i åbent rum
Walddk2 (Kringkasting): Our live vugraph broadcast from Norway restarting in a couple of minutes
->Walddk2: vi starter
Walddk2: ja
Walddk2: Good evening and welcome back to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. This is the 2nd half of the last match today (10 boards)
Walddk2: Your commentators Migry Zur Campanile, Israel, David Greenwood, Ireland, and Jim Hay, Scotland. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
Walddk2: Our operator is Stein Eliassen. Welcome back to you too
migry: Hi all from sunny Tel Aviv:)
migry: 2!d= multi
migry: 2!h = pass or correct
migry: that's a very solid 3!s - i admit i might have been tempted to bid more
migry: especially if double shows heart shortage
jtr: You can play X as 2-way
jtr: either !hs or not !hs
migry: one way is confusing for me:)
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
jtr: lol
Walddk2: Yes, especially one-way traffic
Walddk2: I always seem to be at the wrong end
migry: no such thing in the south of italy:)
Walddk2: Welcome back to Jim Hay
ahh: hi all
migry: hi:) welcome:)
ahh: ok
jtr: this has gone nicely
migry: so the farmers just missed a cold game
jtr: yes, if North had pre-empted on the first round they might have been pushed into it
migry: i think they sd have bid it anyway without being pushed
migry: this should be an easy slam for the warriors
ahh: nicely bid
Walddk2: Welcome back to Gerben Dirksen from the Netherlands
Gerben42: good evening all
migry: hi:) welcome:)
ahh: hi Gerben
Gerben42: looks like they are playing in Norway until sundown (which is next Tuesday?)
Walddk2: In 2 months
Gerben42: ah okay :)
ahh: they will push on so they can watch the football
Gerben42: when is that then? 7 more boards
Gerben42: 8, sorry
Walddk2: Yes, they will play them at lightning speed
Walddk2: They all want to see Portugal win
ahh: do you bid as west ?
Gerben42: West surely worth a bid
Gerben42: 2!H
ahh: 2 !H fills east with glee
Gerben42: suit isnt great but you have side strength - like to defend 1NT on a !S lead?
migry: nice take out double by south
migry: passed by north
ahh: at least south goes + by passing
migry: i think south sd bid - either 2!s which shows only 4 as he didn't transfer or double
Gerben42: had everything going for it the takeout dbl, except that South had nothing
Gerben42: as it is 2!H goes down and anything NS try comes with no guarantees
migry: north wd have certainly passed the double
ahh: must play !C now
ahh: can lose control otherwise
Gerben42: like now
ahh: going 3 off instead of 1
ahh: golden rule always establish your side suit
ahh: on 11 4 !S went down
ahh: 1!S or 2 !H ?
Gerben42: 2!H for me
ahh: and me
jtr: and me
ahh: when shall we 3 meet again ?
Gerben42: :)
Gerben42: all is well, partner had a fit for the suit he chose
jtr: looks like an endplay with the !cA
jtr: if he has the entries maybe not
ahh: !D switch
jtr: yes he has ok
Gerben42: just will get 1!H 1!D 1!C anyway
jtr: to ruff two !hs
Gerben42: surely now
jtr: easy now
Gerben42: why not ruff !H before 2nd !S?
Gerben42: David were that famous last words?
jtr: because he didnt see the line
Gerben42: "easy now"
jtr: yes, went down very easily:-)
ahh: he has just gone down we cursed him told you we were witches
Gerben42: three of us...
migry: that's why i keep quiet
ahh: cash !D or live to regret it
Gerben42: would have been easier if partner had led !DK instead of small...
migry: true
ahh: or as pointed out by spec east should throw !H ace
Gerben42: well done
ahh: well done
jtr: hubble bubble toil and trouble'
jtr: A comeback for the farmers?
Gerben42: looks that way
ahh: 2!S will stop them bidding 3 nt
Gerben42: 2!C precision style - natural
jtr: will it Jim?
ahh: :)
Gerben42: didnt quite stop them - what else appeals after this start?
Gerben42: maybe X instead of 3!H would have helped
jtr: Was just about to type that
ahh: east needs to be awake and unblock !S 10
Gerben42: then South does not value !SQ and bids 3!C all pass
migry: 3!h is an overbid
ahh: easy now
Gerben42: this one worked :)
jtr: Good save against 4!s:-)
ahh: think its a hard game to stay out of after that start
Gerben42: yes - might need to start differently :)
ahh: slam time
ahh: grand is possible
Gerben42: biddable?
ahh: yes
Gerben42: not that easy lots of HCP but need to know your 13 tricks
jtr: 13 on the lucky !cs?
ahh: and restricted choice
Gerben42: my bet is on 6NT
migry: you don't want to be in this grand
jtr: You need to look into the opponents cards to know you have 13 tricks:-)
Gerben42: will bid puppet stayman and then jump to 6N
ahh: depends how many beers they have had :)
migry: maybe they have some way to check for a 4-4 fit in minors
Gerben42: enough to not know what happens next but too few to bid 7N
Gerben42: that's my guess
migry: like 4!s
Gerben42: then you play 4!S!
migry: then i start looking for a new pd:)
jtr: If it shows 5-4 majors which some use
ahh: Dag in agony on webcam
Gerben42: undiscussed I wouldn't pull that one on my partner... 4!S
Gerben42: if discussed, sure :)
jtr: they seem to have agreed !cs
migry: i'm sure the farmers have time to discuss a lot while farming
ahh: www.nordpol/cam.htm
Gerben42: www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
jtr: Not a lot of farming above the artic circle:-)
Gerben42: John-Eldar has a farm which is why he is the Farmer
Gerben42: they are playing in his house
ahh: n/s have run out of pass cards forced by law to start doubling
vugraph116: lead from the wrong hand
Gerben42: what is the lead?
jtr: West led?
vugraph116: D
ahh: Dag will let his p play it
Gerben42: wow that one never happens to me
Gerben42: the guy in the comfy chair is the director btw? on the cam?
jtr: claiming?
jtr: what is he doing?????
jtr: lol still must lose a trick and could have suffered a ruff
ahh: making 12
Gerben42: making 6
bigtrain: well i gotta go... shan coming to the house shortly for some mentoring :-)
jtr: Single !d with South and QJ bare !c
Gerben42: managed to make the 3NT with !S leakage in closed!
Gerben42: maybe no !S10 unblock
jtr: lol yes there was
ahh: no 10 was unblocked but he won 3rd round with 5 :)
jtr: then West played the !s3 to the blocking !s5!!!!!
Gerben42: this Dbl is takeout of !H
migry: that was a misclick:)
migry: i mean the 3!s
ahh: take out to 2 !H even
Gerben42: John-Eldar didnt care about pds shortness in !H :)
jtr: Passing must have been an option too
ahh: yes perhaps
jtr: X tends to show good !ds here as well as short !hs
Gerben42: is a 20-20 hand, 1NTx going to be hot too
ahh: this match truely game of 2 halves
ahh: 21-0 a thalf
Gerben42: think 1370 might be 3 for NS
ahh: now 21-27 down
Gerben42: compared with 1470
migry: i guess the warriors thought they can rest on their laurels
ahh: no laurels in tundra
migry: whatever bushes grow there
Gerben42: xmas trees
migry: :)
ahh: lichen mosses and berry bearing bushes i believe
migry: okay:)))
migry: r they edicle?
migry: edible
jtr: If you are hungry enough:-)
Gerben42: many major cities get their official huge christmas tree from Norway
migry: i always am:)
jtr: lol
ahh: yes i have heard some of the things they eat in Norway berries even if poisonous would be preferable
migry: lol
Gerben42: really? the menu on the website (www.nordpol.no) looks nice
jtr: Herrings
ahh: have you tried shark that has been buried in a beach for months ? no neither did 1
migry: i take the berries:)
Gerben42: we have that in the Netherlands too
Gerben42: the herrings
ahh: louder my herring is not what it used to be
jtr: i love herrings
jtr: oh God Jim:-)
migry: :)
Gerben42: Menu Saturday: Wild Salmon, coalfish, prawns, mussels "grillet et bouillet".
migry: btw wd everyone bid 1NT with the north hand?:)
Gerben42: no I support !D
ahh: 2 imps on slam 1440 only
jtr: I notice the 'potables':-) Plenty of them i believe
Gerben42: if you check the liquor cabinet on the webcam - less and less
Gerben42: 1!D was nebulous 1!D in strong !C context
Gerben42: so 1NT was ok
jtr: Where is Joey when we need him?
ahh: as Roland said this tournament is a kind of bridge heaven
migry: not sure about the bridge - the rest looks okay:)
Gerben42: well it's way above any other location (latitudewise)
Gerben42: for Americans - same latitude as Barrow on Alaska's North coast
ahh: good food good drink good company thats not enough ?
migry: definitely enough for MY heaven
ahh: 2!S or 2!H ?
migry: i would change the herring for some goose liver though
migry: 2!h
jtr: 2!h often will be 6-4
jtr: I like goose liver too
ahh: must be thinking of 3nt
Gerben42: foie gras?
jtr: doubling?
migry: how tempting is to double with the west hand?
ahh: if !S break not bad contract
Gerben42: quite empty trump suit... does not know partner has even one
Gerben42: those last two hands no good commercial for nebulouos 1!D
jtr: is there ever one?
Gerben42: well it wins when it breaks even :)
jtr: Nice !cK
jtr: Well put Gerben:-)
migry: all the strong !c players tend to lose as many imps on the 1!d opening as they win on other things
jtr: I think the original system was the best solution to the problem
jtr: open 2!h
jtr: or 2!d even
ahh: so we come to the last board thx to Stein Eliassen our great operator up there in the Arctic Circle thx to 'the farmer ' John- Eldar Pedersen our gracious host thx to my ...
ahh: fellow commentators Migry Zur Campanile David Greenwood Gerben Dirksen and Roland Wald we restart tomorrow at noonParis 11am London and 6am New York finally thanks to all ...
ahh: spectators for watching
migry: thx all:) it was fun as usual:)
jtr: Nicely timed for the soccer
ahh: yes they were under orders
Gerben42: all carefully planned even though it looks spontaneous
jtr: what is this 2!h?
migry: pity they can't make the match last until tomorrow same time - it will keep my italian husband busy:)
ahh: operating
jtr: Farmer digging?
migry: i assume transfering to partner's spade suit:)
ahh: with a JCB
Gerben42: :) I am also going to visit Italian friends :)
jtr: ah it shows 4!hs and a longer minor apparently
jtr: 6-10HCP
Gerben42: this opening is called "Velociraptor" in the official weak 2 archive
migry: que?
Gerben42: Raptor since it shows 4M 5+m like the 1NT overcall
jtr: thanks to Ivar Berg for the info
ahh: we all know what happened to the dinosaurs
Gerben42: and since you get there quickly it's a fast raptor
Gerben42: yes... not for the weak of heart this
Gerben42: or those weak in !Hs
jtr: might sneak through on a !c lead though
migry: that's a quick one down
ahh: at least
migry: only 1:)
Gerben42: tusen tak - restart in 15 hours and a bit (in which there is no night in Hemnes)
jtr: Thanks for watching everybody and hope you enjoyed
ahh: thx all
jtr: TTFN
jtr: I guess the room will remain open for the results or go watchin closed room
migry: good night:) enjoy the game:)

Walddk2 (Kringkasting): Our live vugraph broadcast from Norway restarting now. Open room for English, closed room for mixed Scandinavian commentary
Walddk2: Good afternoon and welcome back to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. Final now, 2 segments of 10 boards; this is the first
->Walddk2: morgen! :-) vi er klare om 3-4 min
Walddk2: Your commentators Bill Jacobs and Chris Hughes, Australia, Jos Jacobs, Netherlands, Mark Horton and Steve Eginton, England. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
Walddk2: Our operator is Stein Eliassen. Welcome back to you too
Walddk2: The ski jumper will jump from the South seat today
Walddk2: He is a strong believer in jumping to the final contract as soon as possible
chessmaste: Ho Ho!
Walddk2: Hence his nickname
->Walddk2: heisan, sigve smørdal her
loganrun: Good day to all - Norway's answer to Eddie the Eagle Roland
Walddk2: Our operator is actually Sigve Smørdal. Sorry about that
Walddk2: Hei Sigve
->Walddk2: vi hadde tastet inn feil operatør :-)
bjacobs: What is "mixed Scandinavian commentary" ... a bit of Swedish, Danish and Norwegish?
Walddk2: Correct Bill
bjacobs: And everyone understands it all?
Walddk2: Although there is no such thing as Norwegish
Walddk2: On print, yes
Cywerz: hi
JosJ: lol
bjacobs: There is Norwegian, I assume
Cywerz: only OR today?
JosJ: good morning and good evening all
->JosJ: tommy says hello :-)
chessmaste: Will East open?
JosJ: say a very hearty and warm hello to him!
->Walddk2: jepp, da starter vi :-)
Walddk2: Vi starter
bjacobs: Don't think that's an opening bid
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: There is only 1 bottle left, half empty!
chessmaste: No - but tempting
Walddk2: I counted 9 yesterday
loganrun: 1H or 1NT by South - who bids what?
JosJ: 1!H
vugraph116: 2 clubs shows an onesuited hand
bjacobs: Tommy wasn't predicting declaring 2!D, but there you have it
JosJ: for once EW were in a good contract
Walddk2: If 2!C is a 1-suiter, Tommy might have had a feeling as to where it is
Walddk2: I would have passed 2!C with his hand
bjacobs: laughter ...
Walddk4 (Kringkasting): Lukket rum er oppe nu. Danske og norske kommentarer
JosJ: it also has the advantage that partner has to play this ridiculous contract (if it is one) instead of myself
chessmaste: Bidding facing a passed partner was not a great idea
chessmaste: What can you farm in the arctic? Snow?
eggy: Hi everyone
vugraph116: only in the winter season :-)
eggy: Reindeer I'd have thought
JosJ: hi Steve and Mark
loganrun: 1NT might well make though
bjacobs: Let's see if South finds the diamond switch
loganrun: Is 2D such a bad bid by N?
Walddk2: We are 300 km (190 miles) north of the Arctic Circle where the sun is shining 24 hours a day at the moment (when it's not raining)
chessmaste: North might have bid 2!D
bjacobs: Actually, East might find the diamond switch
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm is the link to the very impressive web site with lots of useful info (take a special look at the delicious menus served)
Walddk2: roasted polar bear
bjacobs: Endplay or simple-play?
chessmaste: Noth must cash his spade - not good now
bjacobs: simple play
bjacobs: actually, the simple play was diamond to the king, not 10
chessmaste: Oh dear - the wrong Exit by declarer
bjacobs: And South had to play !DQ
eggy: How many clubs now?
bjacobs: 5?
chessmaste: way too many
bjacobs: so 4 is just a little bit too many?
chessmaste: Why not 4!S by South - might help with a lead?
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
chessmaste: With a fair suit I don't like to go past 3NT
JosJ: good result for NS though 6!S should go off
loganrun: It's going to be tough to bid 6S - bad score against 5S though
chessmaste: 6!H has chances
JosJ: 6!H needs some good guesswork (or counting)
bjacobs: And no spade ruff from the defence :)
chessmaste: Can be defeated by a spade ruff of course
Walddk2: On your screen, Binge is to the far left. Up to you to guess the rest
chessmaste: Is East a pinball wizard?
eggy: Wirkola did well not to balance I think
chessmaste: Four boards in 15 minutes - they are not hanging back for bets!
Walddk2: East is Tommy Sandsmark (fron to camera); thought you knew him well, Mark
loganrun: Plays well for a blind man as well Mark
chessmaste: I have not checked out the camera!
chessmaste: I have some great stories about Tommy!
chessmaste: Most are printable!
Walddk2: Why is this so slow?
Walddk2: :-)
->chessmaste: tommy says hello to u :-)
eggy: so they can polish of the bar contents before the closed room finishes?
->chessmaste: if u tell any stories about him, he will tell some about u :-)
chessmaste: Best regards to Tommy - hope to see him ere long!
bjacobs: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
chessmaste: Good point!
Walddk2: Was it Bill who said that this is how he pictures bridge in heaven?
bjacobs: It was indeed
bjacobs: Comfy chairs, drinks cabinet
eggy: roast polar bear
bjacobs: from the supermarket, I hope
chessmaste: Need a big oven
eggy: Is this the remotest tournament we know of?
loganrun: Have to catch it first
Walddk2: By far, Steve
eggy: Do you have any in the outback Bill?
chessmaste: Why do polar bears hate penguins?
eggy: they can't get the wrappers off?
chessmaste: Correct!
bjacobs: There would be congreses in places like Broken Hill and Alice Springs, but none of them on BBO, Steve
eggy: Broadband is a problem I'd imagine :¬)
bjacobs: Even dialup might be a challenge
eggy: I have friends at Narryer station WA and that is 160 km from a metalled road
bjacobs: There are indeed a few empty spaces in Australia
loganrun: I have kibitzed at Broken Hill - one pair drove 500 km to get to the evening duplicate
Walddk2: Only to find out that it was cancelled
eggy: :¬)
bjacobs: Meanwhile, EW have conducted an auction that you and I might have had
chessmaste: Spectators asking about slams on the previous board - there may be a squeeze for 12 tricks - but not easy to bid to 6!D or 6NT
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/eucaps1.jpg to see where Farmen is located
Walddk2: It takes less time to go from Oslo to Rome than from Oslo to Farmen!
eggy: And you need less overcoats
JosJ: it's not so cold in Farmen now
vugraph116: nice weather here now, sun is shining, keeps the polar bear in the water cooling off :-)
vugraph116: last hand tommy miscounted hearts, th it was 3-3
Walddk2: He is thinking about it one can see
Walddk2: The other 3 left the table
chessmaste: A regulation 3NT now
Walddk2: Wirkola jumped to the bathroom
eggy: sensible not to duck another club, in case West had the spade entry
chessmaste: Anotehr 3NT
bjacobs: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
JosJ: last problem solved too
JosJ: with this lead
bjacobs: 3rd consecutive routine game coming up ... unless E/W come into the act
chessmaste: That is an amazing pass by North
bjacobs: Or an amazing 3!H by South
eggy: both I think
bjacobs: Yes
vugraph116: binge th dummy was rather good for 3h....
chessmaste: He must have thought it was forcing - many play that way now
loganrun: wow - even if 3H were non forcing - 4H looks a reasonable punt
JosJ: I am speechless
chessmaste: The rule is simple - if partner freely supports your six card suit - bid game
bjacobs: It just goes to show ... you think you make a safe comment like "routine game" and end up with egg on your face ... some days, it just doesn't pay for a commentator to get out of ...
bjacobs: bed
eggy: thank god your keyboard isn't Jos
Walddk2: The most amazing part of it is that Wirkola didn't jump for a change
chessmaste: It never pays the commentator
eggy: Anyone checked the drinks cabinet recently?
Walddk2: New nickname perhaps? Chicken? Wimp?
loganrun: Bill - we had a discussion about using 'doubt' words yesterday - eg 'should' rather than 'will' etc.
JosJ: well, that explains it. As Wirkola did not jump, why should Binge go on?
Walddk2: Page 212 in "Manual for BBO Commentators"
bjacobs: It was a "possible routine game"
JosJ: I never RTFM
Walddk2: "We strongly recommend, to be in the safe side, that you use words such as "maybe", "should", "could", "probably" and "approximately"
bjacobs: It was approximately a routine game
Walddk2: on the safe side
bjacobs: Final board coming up. Let's give a big round of applause to our operator Stein Eliassen, who did an excellent job.
JosJ: hear hear
Walddk2: Was actually Sigve Smørdal
Walddk2: well done Sigve!
bjacobs: Woops, sorry about that
chessmaste: A game/thin/making slam?
eggy: yes wd
bjacobs: And I'm sure we all learned something from our fine commentators: Jos, Mark, Chris, Steve and Roland
vugraph116: thx thx :-)
eggy: a "routine" RW slam surely
bjacobs: We learned at least that "when in doubt, express doubt"
Walddk2: "surely" is not a word we recommend
loganrun: 'could' be a small slam here
JosJ: it used to be: When in doubt, bid one more, Bill :-))
eggy: but for RW routine
bjacobs: And of course we should thank John-Eldar Pedersen, who made his house available as the North Norway Bridge Convention Centre
JosJ: it surely could be a RW slam here?
bjacobs: Talk about "welcoming people into your home"!
chessmaste: If West had no 2!C relay available then you can understand 4!S
bjacobs: I think we are now half way through a 20 board final. The second set is due to start in 55 minutes
eggy: I thought for Roland there is no doubt - if it makes it's a slam
Walddk2: After this hand, feel free to join us in the closed room. Lessons in Danish and Norwegian free of charge!
JosJ: very well thought!
bjacobs: And the match is certainly in a balance - see you in 55 minutes
JosJ: ty all and cu in CR
Walddk2: Thanks all, 2nd half starting in about 54 minutes and 33.2 seconds
loganrun: 'approximately'
->Walddk2: Vi lar vugrap stå oppe - starter 13:45
Walddk2: yep
Walddk2: Resuming in 19 minutes
Walddk2: English commentary in both rooms. Tables will be open
Walddk2: Vi er klar når I er
->Walddk2: vi starter som avtalt 1345
Walddk2: ok
->Walddk2: spillerne varmer opp med kaffe :-)
Walddk2: med brænnevin i? :-)
->Walddk2: nei nei :-) her er d blodig alvor
Walddk2: Good afternoon and welcome back to Hennes in Norway for the annual Farmen Invitational Teams. Second half of 10 boards in the final now
Walddk2: Your commentators are Bill Jacobs, Australia, Hedy Grey, Switzerland, Henry Bethe, USA, and John Vaage, Norway. I am Roland Wald from Denmark
Walddk2: Our operator is Sigve Smørdal. Welcome back to you too
vugraph116: thx roland
bjacobs: The boards are on the table ...
Walddk2 (Kringkasting): Our live vugraph broadcast from Norway about to restart. English commentary in both rooms
vugraph116: the players are ready
Walddk2: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm for live pictures with automatic updates every minute
vugraph116: starts in 1-2 min
vugraph116: here we go
HedyG: hi:))
->HedyG: hello :-)
HedyG: good afternoon :))
jvage: Hi all:)
HedyG: NS seem to have 4!h but to get there......
HedyG: oooops
jvage: Wirkola is not bothered by such small things as clubstoppers
HedyG: was 2!d natural or !h?
vugraph116: natural
HedyG: ty Sigve
eggy: Hi all
jvage: Hard to see for Binge how good his cards are!
HedyG: hi Steve:)
HedyG: yesss
bjacobs: Definitely hard for Binge to see how good his cards are, because he doesn't really have any
HedyG: 13!!
HedyG: hi Bill:)
jvage: Declarer got some problems now, because of the 4-1 trump-split
HedyG: no problems to make 3!d
HedyG: ruff !c and ruff !s
jvage: And that's what he does
HedyG: this is the 2nd half of a 20 board match
bjacobs: An excellent slam now
vugraph116: wirkola pleased after that board :-)
HedyG: watch them live on : http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
jvage: 6!s is easy, 6NT much more difficult
HedyG: and John's great website is: http://www.nordpol.no/farmen3.htm
bjacobs: workmanlike
HedyG: :))
jvage: It looks like 6NT can be made on a squeeze against north, spurning the club-finesse
bjacobs: There are alternative lines to ruffing a diamond in dummy, but they all seem inferior to me
jvage: A clublead (or after the !dA) probably breaks it up though (in 6NT)
vugraph116: not often Dag thinks for this long after seeing dummy
bjacobs: He has a furrowed brow
HedyG: cant go wrong whatever he plays
HedyG: is he afraid of a !h ruff?
bjacobs: He is trying to work out a way to decide whether he can ruff the third diamond high in dummy
Walddk2: I don't think so. His problem is: should I ruff a diamond low or high
jvage: both work as it is
jvage: choosing the safest entry to hand
HedyG: wd
bjacobs: workmanlike bidding, workmanlike play
HedyG: lol
jvage: And now the lead has changed for the first time in this final
vugraph116: not many imps, isnt that a proof of good bridge? :-)
Walddk2: It is indeed at 20.00 Paris time
bjacobs: Generally yes, and I think it applies here
bjacobs: Perhaps apart from board 9
vugraph116: :-)
HedyG: :))
vugraph116: dag ask for a time-out:-))
bjacobs: John-Eldar's 4!S bid showed great fortitude - I'd rather have fiveitude
jvage: :)
jvage: 4!h was making, but this will be expencive
vugraph116: 1100?
jvage: Looks like 4 down (1100)
HedyG: unlucky
jvage: Poor Dag, who had to play this, can not be very happy with partner
bjacobs: Wirkola chose a great time to bounce with 4!H
jvage: true to his style
HedyG: 4!h seemed like a normal bid, especially for him
bjacobs: If he'd cued 2!S, then West could have got his foolish spade bid out of his system, perhaps by doubling
vugraph116: john says he will NEVER bid like that again:-))
HedyG: :)))))))))
bjacobs: Excellent - a man who learns from experience
HedyG: until next time:)
bjacobs: "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it" etc etc
vugraph116: dag says p has better cards on the 2 level than on the 4 level:-)
HedyG: rofl
jvage: The link to webcam is: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
bjacobs: I think Dag is sticking gently sticking the knife into his partner
jvage: Opponents (and Dag) are smiling
HedyG: and will be turning it for the next 6 boards
vugraph116: all players in a good mood'
bjacobs: The web cam confirms it
HedyG: i believe everybody is a good mood all weekend on the farm
HedyG: thats why we are all waiting for our invitations!
HedyG: will Wirkola open?
HedyG: wd:)
jvage: yes!
Walddk2: and jump soon
HedyG: worth 3!d
bjacobs: The black spot cards are particularly appealing
jvage: looks like no game is making, but both sides may bid to much
Walddk2: That's it!
bjacobs: Good prognostication Roland
jvage: Wirkola never got a minimum
Walddk2: Wirkola jumped. 111.5 meters, new hill record
HedyG: :)))))
vugraph116: no he never turns down an invitation:-)
HedyG: John just made a promise........
bjacobs: Tell Wirkola to hold his cards back :)
jvage: Will John Eldar sacrifice again, this time a phantom?
HedyG: is Binge teasing him?
vugraph116: y:-)
HedyG: looks like it on the webcam lol
bjacobs: This time, John-Eldar's bid looks more than reasonable
HedyG: booooooum!
jvage: Binge must jump in with the A!
HedyG: needs to disc 1!h on K !c! now making!
bjacobs: The Farmers are back!
jvage: Now it's making
HedyG: now who will tease whom?
bjacobs: What's he doing?
Walddk2: was
jvage: Should guess correctly in !h
Walddk2: He can't any more
HedyG: watch them live on: http://www.nordpol.no/cam.htm
jvage: But wasted his entry
HedyG: oh:(
Walddk2: lol
bjacobs: He's going for some sort pseudo squeeze, when the simple line (playing South for !HAx) would have worked
jvage: With the opening (and !cA in north), the !hA was marked in south
HedyG: done!!!!!!!!!
Walddk2: Who said phantom?
bjacobs: And the pseudo squeeze comes home!
vugraph116: john smiling now
jvage: but this seemed to have worked just as well
bjacobs: Well, I have to officially cancel my "good bridge" statement after these few hands :(
HedyG: we are waiting for the picture to change
jvage: and I have to stop guessing how many tricks can be made.......
bjacobs: that would be wise
bjacobs: "10 no 11 no 10 no 11"
Walddk2: Manual, page 212, don't forget
HedyG: on the right is Wirkola, you can work out the rest
HedyG: the drinks cabinet is in the back left..
jvage: A calm partscore after some exciting hands
Walddk2: "This contract may perhaps make or perhaps not make. He has approximately 9-10 tricks. That's how to go about it guys
HedyG: do you all pass with N hand?
jvage: Could stretch to 1NT, but prefer pass
Walddk2: North has no bid
HedyG: i was thinking 1nt
bjacobs: I pass with regrets
bjacobs: The vulnerability suggests a pass, if nothing else
jvage: agree Bill
HedyG: just thinking:)))
bjacobs: well don't do it again
bjacobs: :)
HedyG: ok:((((((
bjacobs: The hand is certainly prime, 2 aces and 2 kings, so I'm sure there are top players who would indeed come in with 1NT
HedyG: and nice spots in 5 card !c suit
HedyG: time to cash out
jvage: The defense can do no better than cash their 3 top tricks, to hold it to an overtrick (no hurry yet)
HedyG: lots of !ds for EW today
HedyG: i see 5!d making
bjacobs: Good observation Hedy - last 4 boards: 11, 10, 9, 8 card diamond fits
HedyG: :)
HedyG: now he will pass:(
bjacobs: They may have arrived
jvage: can he find a pass?
HedyG: and playing !hs right 5!d is cold
vugraph116: wirkola ask if 2cl was transfer:-)
jvage: Most often partners minors will be interchanged, then this would not be any better than 1NT
HedyG: lololllllll
HedyG: maybe Binge could have doubled 2!c?
vugraph116: little break for wirkola, back soon
HedyG: looks like NS can make 4!c
HedyG: i dont see John overbidding his hand
HedyG: now, if Dag had bid 2!d instead of 1nt...
vugraph116: not after that 4S incident:-)
HedyG: lol no
HedyG: finding a place to park the !s loser
bjacobs: South could have held up !HJ to hold it to 10 tricks
jvage: Playing !h correctly he now have 10 tricks (the only alternative line on the bidding, A and small to T would also work)
HedyG: he had a !d entry to table
jvage: 11 that is!
bjacobs: Was hoping you wouldn't notice that Hedy - indeed, declarer had cleverly kept !D2 in his hand
HedyG: lolol Bill
HedyG: yes he played it well
HedyG: finesse J
jvage: Here they solved what could have been a !d guess
HedyG: the farmers have 2 boards to catch up
bjacobs: The 550 was worth only 4, when N/S had an accident at the other table
HedyG: the 1100 cost 10 imps
HedyG: wants to bid 3!h?
HedyG: 3!d?
vugraph116: 3d to play now?
bjacobs: Ugly
jvage: and 3NT!
HedyG: yes to play
HedyG: he cant bid 3nt!
jvage: He shouldn't, but we were discussing what he wanted
HedyG: and really doesnt like 2nt
bjacobs: Unfortunately, the rules require him to make a call here
vugraph116: guess he feels they are behind in the match, using very long time to bid
HedyG: not fair:(( should be allowed to ask pd to change his bid
bjacobs: He did well
jvage: Unfortunatelt, since they have bid the other suits, the critical (even in 2NT) club-lead is marked
HedyG: and unfair lead too!
bjacobs: That's ok - it will go down, but nothing makes, and they could have ended up higher
jvage: not the critical switch!
HedyG: oh wow!!!!!!
HedyG: now he can make this!
jvage: Or that is, it may be critical for the defense
bjacobs: Wirkola is thinking to deny dummy an entry
bjacobs: to the long diamonds - but that is very DEEP
HedyG: i wouldnt play !H here!
jvage: well done by binge to keep his !sA
bjacobs: yes, looks like he saved the day
HedyG: lets see..
HedyG: squeeze on !d?
HedyG: no
jvage: the normal result after a diversion in play
HedyG: no need to play A!h!
HedyG: last board now
HedyG: our thanks to Sigve Smørdal, our outstanding operator in Hennes:) great job!
HedyG: to my brilliant co-commentators John Våge, Steve Eginton and Bill Jacobs!

HedyG: Finally thanks to our host John-Eldar Pedersen"The Farmer",who has also been instrumental in organising this broadcast
HedyG: we sure did!
HedyG: just would like some reindeer terrine pls
jvage: I almost expected Binge to upgrade to 15-17 1NT
jvage: not the critical lead, now 2 !d disappear
HedyG: not best lead!
jvage: !h now
HedyG: actually with !s lead this cant happen
HedyG: here it is
HedyG: making 2!s
jvage: declarer got control with the friendly heart-split
vugraph116: behind 10, they need it to make to have any chance
HedyG: thank you for joining, we hope you enjoyed as much as we did
