Bye snow-scooter to Hilmar Nøis,s old main
station Fredheim at Svalbard. A fascinating part of
Norway. This was late in may, but the ice at sea was rather safe so
driving condition was very good. It was amasing
for me visiting Fredheim, wich was Hilmar,s home for almost 50 year.
Hilmar stayed over the winter at Svalbard 38 times - he is no. 1. He started

It has been so many nice expeditions during many year.
Togheter with brother Wernwer it has been both fishing and hunting at summertime
and wintertime.
BIPPAS, ÆRTEBEL, RØYKSKARET, GULAS, GIRUNOIAVE, KUDALEN,
VOUMA, MOSKAN, ASLAK, ANJA, HØGSKARET, LILLE-JÆRTA, STORE-JÆRTA, LANGFJELLET,
SKRUBBEN. This is names wich reminds me about so many nice
trips.
From about 1965 vi started
expeditions around the mountains here. Our "Guide", uncle Paal was a good
teacher. Paal had several depot in the mountain, with salt (for the fish)and oil
(so he easier could make a fire).
I will never forget when Paal and I came down from the mountains, and to sea level
near a river. We started fishing for salmon, but there was big whales (brugde)
near the landside, and I hooked one of them - you cannot imagine this experience.
"Uncle Paal" was a "mountain-man", and he learned me a lot - thanks to him.
The last 10 year moosehunting has been given priority. The well known trich to
wissle before shooting works, I can asure you about that !
